How to make the most out of your GP appointment
Information about Consultations
- Nurse consultations are available by appointment during core hours on weekdays between 08:30 and 17:30pm. Nurse appointments are usually for 15 minutes.
- GP consultations are available by appointment during core hours on weekdays from 09:00 to 11:40 and 15:30 to 18:10. GP appointments are usually for 10-12 minutes.
- We run extended hours clinics on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 18:30 – 19:30 (last booked appointments are at 19:15)
- Each consultation is for one person only and you are advised to that the doctor will not be able to address multiple problems in one appointment.
- You must check yourself in when you arrive for your appointment. You can do this on our Patient Self Check-in Screen or, alternatively, you can let a receptionist know you have arrived.
- If you have an emergency that cannot wait, the on call doctor will be available to see you on the day in either our morning or afternoon daily on-call surgeries.
- If your consultation includes a physical examination that you feel sensitive about or if you would simply like another person in the room when you see the doctor, please let our receptionist know and we will arrange for a trained chaperone to be present.
- We are a training practice and sometimes the doctor will be running the surgery with a GP trainee, junior doctor or medical student who has been trained in the importance of strict patient confidentiality. If you would prefer not to have another person in the room during your consultation please inform reception or your doctor.
Cancellations
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
Late For Your Appointment
Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.
Interpreter
If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and they will arrange this for you.
Patient Choice
What is patient choice?
If you and your GP decide that you need to see a specialist for more treatment, you can now choose where and when to have your treatment from a list of hospitals or clinics.
Why has patient choice been introduced?
Research has shown that patients want to be more involved in making decisions and choosing their healthcare. Most of the patients who are offered a choice of hospital consider the experience to be positive and valuable. The NHS is changing to give you more choice and flexibility in how you are treated.
Your choices
Your local choices are included in a booklet published by the Department of Health. Follow this link to their website for more information:

Home Visits
Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
Text Reminder Service
We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.
To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.
