Non-urgent advice: Bereavement Support

Bereaved people have a right to a service which respects their needs whilst they are going through a tough time. Here are some services which provide practical information and advice, signpost us on the procedures that need to be carried out following a loved one’s death, and/or offer counselling services.

Non-urgent advice: Are you a carer?

Please see the NHS guide for people who have care and support needs, their carers, and people who are planning their future care needs.

Age UK Islington provide unpaid carers with guidance and support for their wellbeing and those that they care for.

Islington Carers Hub provide emotional, financial and practical advice and guidance to unpaid carers.

Carers UK offer information, advice and support for unpaid carers.

Family Action is a charity that supports young people and offers direct, practical help to families.

Non-urgent advice: Domestic Abuse

If you are a victim of domestic abuse, support is available.

Men’s Advice Line offer a confidential helpline for men experiencing domestic violence.

Refuge supports women and children who are victims of violence and abuse. This includes female genital mutilation and forced marriage.

You can book a free hearing test at your nearest Specsavers. They will check how well you can hear and suggest the best solution for you.

Non-urgent advice: Housing, finding work, and financial support

Finding work: The iWork service can support any Islington residence who is out of work, or in low paid work, to access employment support and find a job, apprenticeship or training opportunity.

Financial support: If you are worried about money, there is financial support available in Islington.

Problems with housing: Help on Your Doorstep aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Islington, especially those who are vulnerable and isolated.

Non-urgent advice: Insomnia

If you’re experiencing insomnia symptoms, Sleepstation can provide you with the support and guidance you need to sleep well. You can check if you can access their NHS service free of charge via their website. 

Non-urgent advice: Mental Health Support

There are a number of mental health services available locally and nationally.

iCope: This is a psychological therapy service that can give you the time to talk for adults of all ages. iCope can help you learn ways to help yourself so that you feel more able to cope with your problems.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS): CAMHS aim to support the emotional health and wellbeing of children, young people, and families in Islington.

Mind Islington: Mind is a major mental health service provider in Islington.

Samaritans: Samaritans is a charity which works to reduce feelings of isolation. They are available day and night for those who need someone to listen without judgement or pressure.

Good thinking: Good thinking is an NHS approved well-being service that supports Londonders to look after their mental health in a way that works for them.

Low income? You may be able to access free medicines for minor ailments

Do you have a common illness such as a cough, cold, sore throat, or a tummy ache? Your local pharmacy may be able to offer clinical advice without you waiting for an appointment, and also offer over-the-counter medications.

Self-Care Medicines Scheme: Early treatment for minor conditions can help people get better quickly and avoid a visit to the GP. Community pharmacies are taking part in this scheme and can provide eligible patients with free medicines for common minor ailments like allergies, earache or minor injuries.

If you have ongoing muscle or joint pains, we recommend self-referring to the Whittington MSK service

Whilst you wait to hear back from them, or if you would prefer to self-manage without attending a clinic, you can download the getUBetter app provided by Whittington Health. The app provides evidence-based advise for common muscle, bone, and joint problems.

Non-urgent advice: Podiatry Service

If you are experiencing feet-related problems, and you have tried treatment recommended by the pharmacy, you can self-refer to the Whittington Podiatry service.

Non-urgent advice: Pregnancy

You should start antenatal care as soon as you become aware of your pregnancy. You can self-refer to antenatal services. Please see below:

Non-urgent advice: Sexual Health

Archway Centre offers free, confidential, sexual and HIV services in London. This includes STI testing and treatment, contraception, HIV, and viral hepatitis testing, treatment, and care.

Non-urgent advice: Stop Smoking

Quitting smoking can be difficult but we know that consistent support can lead to success. Support is available for free via Stop Smoking services, as listed below, or your local pharmacy.

Breathe is Islington’s stop smoking service. You can self-refer by telephone or via their online form.

You can also self-refer to Stop Smoking London who can support you starting at any stage of your quitting journey.

At Partnership Primary Care Centre, we offer smoking cessation appointments with our Healthcare Assistant or Practice Nurse. They can support you in quitting smoking and assist you in accessing stop smoking treatment if it is suitable. They can also refer you to smoking advisors.
